The Weather and Your Hair

We all know that the weather can have drastic affects on your hair - in the summer, it's frizz-city, while in the winter your hair feels so dry that it looks dull and dead. There are some tricks to controlling your curly hair in these extreme weather conditions, however.

Spring

Spring is a transitional period from the dry of winter to the humidity of summer. As the weather changes, so does your hair. As a result, your hair care routine should change. Spring is a perfect time to get your hair ready for the humidity, and repair it from the harsh winter it just dealt with.

Moisturizing and protecting your hair is cruicial at this point in time. This is when you'll have a chance to let your hair soak in the moisture, and repair damage. It'll help your hair to feel healthy, and make the summer damage less extreme!

Summer

The secret in the summer humidity is to fight water with water. Instead of using silicon-based or oil-based products that don't mix well with water, try using products that are water-based, like the products from Curly Hair Solutions™. The water base not only means that it doesn't react to the humidity in the air, it also means that there is a lot less product build up in your hair.

Swimming is always a much-loved activity in the summer months, the chlorine found in pools can damage your hair. Not only will jumping into the pool rinse out all products that you have put into your hair, the chemicals in the pool water will also dissolve the natural protiens in your hair. The best way to protect your hair while spending your summer lounging by the pool is to rinse your hair out with clean water as soon as you get out of the pool - avoid the shampoo immediately as it will just add to the stripping action of the chlorine, then style with your regular styling products.

Autumn

Autumn, like spring, is a transitional period between summer and winter. As such, it's a good time to repair any damage your hair has suffered throughout the summer, and prepare it for the winter damage it's about to endure. The weather is a little more stable than spring, as we don't have as many snowy and rainy days as we do in spring. This is a good time to consider experimenting with your hair care routine. The weather will not be affecting your hair, so you'll get to see proven results of daily hair care routine.

Winter

Dry weather can leave your hair looking dull and feeling out of control. The lack of moisture in the air can also cause your scalp to be itchy. One trick to keeping your hair moisturized is to sleep with a humidifier in your room all winter long. It will moisturize the air and you'll be able to see a noticeable difference in not only your hair, but also in your skin.

When the air starts to get drier, your hair will also loose some of it's volume. To help counteract this, you can diffuse your curls. Bend over fowards, hanging your hair upside down. Squeeze your hair upwards to tighten loose curls and to increase volume. While drying, use a diffuser to help speed up the drying process.
