Styling Curly Hair

There are so many different ways you can style your curly hair - especially now that it's popular to be curly! Whether you want to go straight, or wear your hair more naturally, you're bound to look your best with some of these tips.

When getting your hair cut, you should never get it cut too short - the perfect ringlet will rotate at least 2 1/2 times around. A couple of shorter pieces around your face can frame your face and totally change your style.

The biggest secret of styling curly hair depends on the quality of the products you use, and whether you use them properly.

The Three Stages to Hair Styling

The first stage to styling your hair actually occures before you start styling. Apply the products you use in the manner they are meant to be used. If you don't know how to apply your product, ask your stylist next time you get your hair cut.

The second style is the styling of the hair, and the beginning of the drying process. Curls have a tendency to shrink during the drying process, resulting in a loss in length and volume. As the hair starts to dry, the volume expands. Before you start using a blow drying to dry your hair, allow it to air dry a little bit first.

The third stage is after your hair is dry - at this point, you can play with your curls and style them however you want. The more you play with the curls, the more volume you will get from them.

Don't forget: big hair isn't always the same thing as frizzy hair.

Straigtening Your Hair

There will always be days when you would much rather have straight hair than you would curly. On these days, there are some important pointers you should keep in mind.

When using a flat iron, make sure you use the proper products beforehand. Not only do you want your hair to be tangle-free, but you also want to use something that is going to protect your hair from burning, as well as sealing the hair cuticles (we recommend ReMane Straight™ by Curly Hair Solutions™). You will see steam when using your flat iron, but if you are using the correct products, this just shows that the extracts in the product are working.

The only time you should be using a flat iron is when your hair is dry.

Lastly, don't straighten your hair excessively. Just like colour treating your hair, too much straitening can damage your hair.
