How to Shape Eyebrows

If this is your first time shaping your eyebrows, it might be a good idea to go to a professional eyebrow artist to get them to do it for you. Then, you won't have as much trouble maintaining it.

If, however, you'd prefer to do it on your own, we've laid out the steps it would take for you properly shape and pluck your eyebrows.

Hold a pencil parallel to the side of your nose, so it touches the inside of your eye. This line will tell you where your eyebrow should start – mark that line with an eyebrow pencil, before repeating for your other eyebrow.

Making sure that you are looking straight ahead, change the angle of the pencil so it's angling from the outside of your nose to the outside edge of your iris. Mark where you the pencil intersects you eyebrow. This is where the arch of your eyebrow should begin. Repeat for your other eyebrow.

Change the angle yet again of the pencil – this time from the outside of your nose to the outside of your eye. Where the pencil intersects your eyebrow is where your eyebrow should end. Mark this point off on your eyebrow. Repeat for your other eyebrow.

Determine how thick or how thin you want your eyebrows. If you have prominent features, your eyebrow should be fairly thick, whereas if you have delicate features you probably want a thinner eyebrow. This is also where you want to determine exactly where the emphasis of your eyebrow is – if you have a round face, you want to put more emphasis on the arch, whereas if your face is longer, your arch shouldn’t be as dramatic.

Tweeze your eyebrows, or fill them in, depending on your eyebrow shape.

If tweezing, make sure you don't over-pluck. It can take a long time for your eyebrows to grow back in. Always pluck hairs in the direction that they grow in – this makes it easier for them to be removed. Try to avoid plucking more than one hair at a time – doing so makes it easier to over-pluck.
