Homemade Face Masks

Face masks can help to revitalize and cleanse your skin, and can be made very easily with ingredients you would normally find in your kitchen. Before applying a mask, you should always cleanse your face properly with toner. Your mask should be left on for anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes; and after you’ve removed the mask don’t forget to moisturize your face!

A lot of times the ingredients you choose for your face mask are going to depend on what you are looking to accomplish or what type of skin you have. We’ve outlined a couple of easy recipes below for your own homemade face masks.

The easiest facial mask is just honey, which works well on all skin types. After cleansing your face with toner and warm water, apply honey liberally. Leave it for 15 minutes and then rinse off first with warm water, followed by cool water. Honey works really well for opening and cleansing pores.

For Oily Skin:

  1. You need: finely grated apple, 4 Tbsp honey. Mix ingredients together, apply to your face. Rinse after 10 minutes.
  2. You need: 1 tsp grapefruit juice, 1 tsp sour cream, 1 egg white. Beat egg until fluffy. Add sour cream and grapefruit juice. Apply to face. Rinse after 15 minutes.
  3. You need: ½ ripe banana, 2 tsp honey, a couple drops of lemon juice. Mash banana, and mix with honey and juice. Apply to face. Rinse after 15 minutes.

For Dry Skin:

  1. You need: 2 Tbsp honey, 2 Tsp milk. Mix together. Apply to face. Rinse after 10 minutes.
  2. You need: 1 egg, 1 tsp almond oil. Beat egg, add oil. Apply to face. Rinse after 10 minutes.
  3. You need: ½ avocado, ¼ cup honey. Mash avocado, and mix with honey. Apply to face. Rinse after 10 minutes.

For Sensitive Skin:

  1. You need: 1 cup natural yogurt, ½ cup oatmeal. Mix ingredients together. Apply to face. Rinse after 15 minutes.
  2. You need: 3 Tbsp plain yogurt, 2 Tbsp oatmeal, honey. Mix ingredients together. Apply to face. Rinse after 15 minutes.
  3. You need: ½ tsp olive oil, 1½ tsp mashed avocado. Mash ingredients together. Chill. Apply to face. Rinse after 5 minutes.

For Normal Skin:

  1. You need: 2 lettuce leaves, olive oil, lemon juice. Dip lettuce into olive oil and sprinkle with lemon juice. Place on both sides of your face, and cover with mineral water. Rinse after 5 minutes.
  2. You need: 2 tsp flax seeds, 1½ cups distilled water, ground oatmeal. Boil flax seed and distilled water mixture to a boil, and simmer for fifteen minutes, stirring continuously. Remove from heat and cool. Add enough oatmeal to make a smooth paste. Apply to face. Rinse after 5 minutes.
  3. You need: 1 egg, juice of 1 lemon, 4 Tbsp non-fat dry milk powder, 1 Tbsp witch hazel. Blend all ingredients together. Apply to face. Rinse after 15 minutes.

To Exfoliate:

  1. You need: 2 Tbsp sugar, 3 Tbsp warm water. Stir sugar into water. Massage into face. Rinse.

To Remove Blackheads and Pimples:

  1. You need: 2 Tbsp baking soda, 2 Tbsp water. Mix baking soda and water. Apply gently to face. Rinse after 5 minutes.
  2. You need: ½ cup lemon juice, 4 drops lavender oil, 1 tsp butter, ½ cup crushed oats, 1 Tbsp salt, 4 Tbsp grated apple. Mix all ingredients together, and apply to face. Rinse after 15 minutes.
