Why Exfoliate Skin?

Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and other dirt that is on your skins surface – the buildup of dead skin cells and dirt often clogs pores and is the cause of many breakouts. It's recommended that you exfoliate your skin one a week – doing so will leave you with healthy, glowing skin. It will also help to soften your skin, and will give you the appearance of firmer skin.

There are two main types of exfoliants: mechanical and chemical. Chemical exfoliants contain acids to dissolve the dead skin cells, and should not be used without talking to a professional. Mechanical exfoliants contain little particles that will dislodge dead skin cells when rubbed on your skin.

How to Exfoliate Skin

Start by rinsing the area of skin you want to exfoliate with warm water. Using a circular motion, apply an exfoliating cleanser with a loofah or exfoliating gloves. When you have finished, rinse with cool water, making sure you have removed all traces of the exfoliant. After you have completely dried, finish up with a rich moisturizer.

Tips to Remember When you Exfoliate Skin

  • If you've recently exfoliated your skin, be sure to apply sunscreen liberally – you're more prone to getting a sunburn!
  • Use the correct type of exfoliant for the area of your body that you are exfoliating – face exfoliants shouldn't be used on your body, nor should body exfoliants be used on your face.
  • Stop using an exfoliant if you are starting to react to it. If you have sensitive skin, talk to you dermatologist to see what you can use.
